Soham B.

Private tutor in San Bruno, CA

Education

I am currently a sophomore at UC Berkeley majoring in Business Administration with a Global Management Concentration with a minor in Political Science

Experience

I founded my own tutoring business (Tutoring by Soham) in June 2014. In the past year, I have tutored over 30 students in almost every subject you can imagine, but primarily in SAT and ACT test prep. I also have extensive experience tutoring in algebra, all English levels, Spanish, physics, and more. I have been fortunate enough to see a wide variety of students, and have therefore been able to adjust my tutoring style uniquely to each student, combinig both physical and online resources to maximize the student’s potential. I am adept at understanding both student and parent needs and am very flexible. I scored a 2270 on the SAT, 35 on the ACT, and 710 on the both the Math Level II and US History Subject Tests, and have been closely studying the changes being implemented by the College Board for 2016 updated SAT, and am prepared for the change. Teaching people is a reward in it of itself; I live to see my students reach the “Aha!” moment. I am also involved in an education startup called Literacy Lab in Oakland, where I am working to improve their process systems, implementing new technology, and reaching out to community leaders.

Hobbies

I have been instilled with a strong sense of civic duty from my parents, and have been fortunate enough to attend the best public school in the world. I have firsthand seen the connection between education, food access, and poverty, and therefore have devoted much of my free time to these pressing issues. I am involved in an organization called Feeding Forward, regularly volunteer at the San Francisco Food Bank, and have organized my peers at several San Mateo County soup kitchens. I am an avid sports nut, with an unhealthy devotion to the Giants and Warriors, along with running cross country and track.
